New Writing Year
2010 – Wow!
Already the first month of the year has flown past and here we are in February. I have several projects on the go: a manuscript to redraft for a publisher; a short story tugging me towards completion; and my novel is only a breath or two away from a full first draft. (Well a few short chapters anyhow.) It’s going to be a busy writing year with several new titles due out too.
I’ve joined a new writing group and am energised with possibilities due to their enthusiasm and encouragement. I’ve set my writing goals and tried to keep them realistic. My main project will be completing my historical novel; however, despite months of initial research, I still find myself constantly checking facts and details on the era and minutiae of everyday life in the Great War period. “Amazing” research, but it does tend to slow down the writing.
What an incredible age to be a writer with the internet and Google at our fingertips – but, oh what a trap! Hours can pass in a blink while I check on a small fact, which inevitably leads to another question or links to another fascinating website, and another, and another…
I will focus; I will focus; I swear I will focus. Just let me check one more little thing first.
