Excitement… double and triple check (with so much brimming about.)

After months of planning, I’m all set to fly to Scotland to begin a research trip for my WIP – an historical novel. Without giving too much away, the story begins in a tiny mining village in Lanarkshire in the early nineteen hundreds before tracing the characters’ migration south to Australia.

I am out of my skin with excitement because not only will I walk in the footsteps of my characters, but in those of my grandmother and great-grandparents whose birthplace and history sparked a love of the story settings from which this novel-length work of fiction emerged.

I’m hoping my visit will give me a glimpse into the past, along with insights and a sense of place that book and internet research simply cannot provide. I cannot wait to see the simple things such as the difference in the light.

Stay tuned for updates. And, of course, photographs…
